Are you thinking of starting a blog? Not sure where you should begin or what to start writing about? Don’t panic, you need to first realise the importance of niche. What’s your niche? Think what you are brilliant at, your superpower, the subject you can talk about for hours with clarity. That’s where you begin!
Spinnin Plates Blogging Report (Month 5)
In this blogging report series, I will jot down my progress each month and the main areas where I’ve focused on for 2018! The lessons I’ve learnt and how I’ve overcome them!
Here are my earlier reports if you’d like a lookie!
I’m still super-charged and sending out 3 blog posts a week averaging 800 – 1200+ words. I stick to Tuesday, Friday and Sunday with a variety of posts across my niche.
Blogging requires hard work and determination. Even the most brilliant of minds don’t get their first sentences right on the first attempt, or even the third. You need to keep motivated even if sometimes I have kind of what other call writer’s block, I go to another task and come back afresh!
Be clear on the importance of niche!
Some people that come across your blog, your writing and your message and not get you. Who cares, really? Those people are not your people and they can move on and find the writings of someone they do like. Like everything in life, we are all individual, which makes the world such an interesting place. As our Tribe Leader often says, who wants to be Beige Bev?!!! Not me!
What does this niche business mean?!
A niche blog makes you an expert. Since you know your niche very well, writing about it should be easy. The things you write about will be original or will be based on your experiences in that niche. Or, you may pick a topic of interest and through blogging, become an expert in that niche. This is when people know you are the go-to expert when they have a question within the niche.
To put it bluntly, if you want to earn money blogging, you really need to work on the niche, believe in yourself and stand firm and your followers will spread the word about your knowledge.
Numbers continue to rise!
Although my focus has been on other areas of the blog this month, I am still seeing numbers rise.
Slow and steady wins the race!
I’m bemused however by a crazy technique many social media people use to become more popular. The follow/unfollow craze. Personally, I think it’s not clever, funny and completely wastes my time. You either like me, follow me and enjoy the interaction or you don’t. I refuse to get pulled into the F/UF party and I would advise you if you are starting out to do the same!
The other option some use to be seen as “popular” is to buy their followers. If you are desperate, not authentic and want an easy way, use google. You’ll find a crazy amount of services to get you followers for a cost. No thanks from me!
General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
Love it or hate it, everyone reading this should know about this. If you don’t, where have you been?! This isn’t just relevant for the likes of the big guys Facebook or WhatsApp. As a blogger, we should be completely on it with your compliance, policies and transparency as of 25th May 2018.
Yes, it’s taken an entire month of my focus but always wanting to get the best out of every given situation, it’s given me a chance to rethink much of what I do and how I do it!
Thanks to my amazing tribe member Aleena from The Blog VA for her amazing Live on the subject, helping so many fellow bloggers and showing what an incredible techy mind she has to be able to wrap her head around the subject. We are very grateful Aleena for sharing your knowledge!
I took the opportunity to move to a different company to handle my mailing list. This meant I said goodbye to half of my current mailing list because they didn’t open the email I sent them to move with me.
It’s time for a fresh start, and once they start missing me in their inbox they’ll come back, or they may enjoy the peace without me! Whichever way, we are all happy!
