10 Quick Positive Tips for Mental Health

It’s so important to take care of yourself and get the most from life.  But sometimes we forget the simple every-day tips for mental health.  This is a timely reminder to myself, and you, to take it back to basics!


Below are have written 10 positive tips for mental health. Making simple changes to how you live your life, doesn’t need to cost a fortune or take up loads of time. Anyone can follow this advice, so why not give it a try?



Add spices to aid your mental health

1. Journaling

Journal to get problems and worries off your mind and make room for positive, productive thoughts.  I journal daily, including a brain dump, to do list and goal planning!


2. Fresh Air

For a quick mental lift, there’s nothing like a breath of fresh air. Get out and get some air. If you can’t get out, open a window or door to bring the fresh air in. The change of scenery, as well as the scent, helps you to reset your mind.


3. We’re talking positivity!

There’s nothing like having a nice conversation to boost your mood. Talk with a positive person. Not only does the positivity help but so does the one-on-one interaction.

4. Mood boost!

For an instant mental boost, listen to some upbeat music. Listening to music activates every part of your brain to start creating more playlists for better brain function, mood management, and mental health.


5. Turn that frown upside down!

Get a dose (or five) of laughter each day. It helps to maintain mental health, elevate your mood, and much more. Laughter gives your whole brain a “mental” workout. So, make sure you take time to laugh frequently.


6. Get Moving

Exercise is a perfect way to get into a better frame of mind. Fire up those endorphins to power up your positive thought process.  Whether it’s a brisk walk or a yoga session, getting the body moving will make you feel amazing!


7. Spice it up!

For better mental health and brain function, spice up your recipes with cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, and other spices. The research discovered that these provide nutrients, which sharpen memory, reduce stress, and improve sleep.  I start my day with a juice or smoothie packed with amazing goodness!


8. Visualisation

Want a quick mental pick me up? Look at pleasing pictures. The visuals will help your brain focus on the positive, pleasurable aspects of life.  You could make yourself a vision board to help with this.


9. Surround yourself with happy people

If you need a mental boost, spend time with your funniest friend. Good belly laughs are an instant mental pick me up. The effects tend to last well after you’ve stopped laughing since your mind replays the memory.

10. Going dark makes the difference

Eat dark chocolate to lighten your load and lift your mood. Dark chocolate is one of the few food sources for anandamide, a neurotransmitter that is also known as the “bliss molecule.”
