Fresh Green Juice!
Drinks made from leafy green vegetables have found themselves a permanent fixture on supermarket shelves (Sainsbury’s, Tesco’s and Waitrose stores all now stock branded green juices). There are juice bars that have popped up in every city and many larger towns and on Instagram, it’s gone #greenjuice selfies crazy!
We love it!
In our house, 3 out of the 5 of us love it! I’m still working on the other two aged 20 and 7, and believe I’ll get there and they will join in our family passion for fresh green juice in the morning!
But I do understand that it may seem a little scary and can be a little like marmite, love it or hate it. But I believe if you pick the right juice for you, you’ll not look back and your energy levels will soar!
For me, juicing is makes me feel so good and I actually really do enjoy how it tastes. The recipe I’m sharing is the perfect gateway into juicing if you’re somebody who has had bad experiences before. Try this, and let me know how you get on!
It’s super delicious, nutritious juice and gives your body the oomph it needs to get you through your busy day!
Let’s be sensible!
Juicing can provide several important nutritional benefits. The recommendation is that our diet should include at least six to eight servings of fruits and vegetables every day. Some of us attempt to eat that much, but most of us fail.
Apart from the occasional fruit snack, most of our fresh diet consists of cooked veg. The heat used during cooking can damage or destroy several of the most important nutrients in produce. So let’s move the vitamins along, and add a glass of luscious juice each day!
We can often start with good intentions. Own up! We’ve all done it. We are on a trip to the supermarket, loaded our trolley full of an array of colourful fruit and veg. Walking tall, proud of our trolley contents. We have that knowing feeling of superiority to those with trolleys filled with doughnuts, coffee and white bread!
Do you eat it all? Rarely. Those good intentions fall by the wayside very quickly when life just gets too bonkers. The fridge and fruit bowls are somewhat full of gradually deteriorating fresh produce by the middle of the week! What a waste!
Come on guys and gals! Juicing is simple, tasty and wonderfully nutritious!
Also, juicing makes it much easier to consume than the recommended amounts of fruits and vegetables. And, because the produce is juiced while it’s still raw, juicing also prevents the loss of nutrients that can arise from cooking or heating the food.
What we have found from our juicing journey:-
You need to experiment and mix it up, we all have different taste buds, find what works for you
There is a crazy amount of resources online, just google Juicing Recipes and there will be thousands available at your fingertips
It isn’t expensive because you’re using all that fruit and veg, not binning it
You’ll get a MASSIVE hit of superpower to charge you through your day!
Ensure you have a higher proportion of veg and a smaller hit of fruit – keep those sugars down
You’ll be amazed how delicious juicing can be!
Here is the juice I make in the mornings!
We follow Joe Cross with much excitement! If you haven’t already checked him out, you must! He is completely inspirational! Take one hour or so out of your life and a make sure you’ve got a box of tissues if you’re soppy like me! Watch his story here.
My partner Andy followed the reboot. Once he was over the mind over matter ‘I’m starving’ mentality, he loved it! Andy actually continued longer than planned, losing a very good amount of weight but moreover felt incredible!
The two of us, along with my 18-year-old daughter, include this into our daily routine without thinking and miss it when we are travelling!
I suffer greatly from migraines, and the reboot triggered a very bad attack lasting many days so I couldn’t partake, instead, I met the guy half way, two juices a day and one meal. Wow, I felt good! This goes to show if something doesn’t work for you, mix it up and put in place the changes to make it work!
To ensure that your body receives all the nutrients it requires, use juicing to supplement your meals, not replace them unless you are doing a juice fast (here the aim is different, you are focused on cleansing). Try drinking a glass of freshly prepared juice along with your regular meal or as a mid-morning, mid-afternoon or evening snack.
It’s also important to drink your juice as soon as possible after juicing because the nutrients in the juice are highly perishable. If you can’t drink your juice immediately, store and refrigerate it promptly and properly. Depending on the type of juicer you use, freshly prepared, properly stored juice will retain most of its nutrients for 24 to 72 hours.
