Why is drinking water beneficial?
It’s a no-brainer!
It’s really a no-brainer (actually your brain is 90% water!!!). Your body is about 70% water, the majority of your blood and every cell in your body is composed of water. Therefore, you need water to function properly.
Imagine your body as an engine. Can you run your engine or car with pouring watered down fuel? No, if it moved at all, it would cough and splutter, then become very unwell and need to be sent to the engine room for recovery.
So if you don’t do this with your car engine, why put your body through it, the most precious thing you own?
The definition of a headache:-
Headaches can occur as a result of many conditions whether serious or not. There are a number of different classifications systems for headaches. The most well recognised is that of the International headache society. Causes of headaches may include fatigue, sleep deprivation, stress, the effects of medications, the effects of recreational drugs, viral infections, loud noises, common colds, head injury, rapid ingestion of a very cold food or beverage, and dental or sinus issues. (Source Wikipedia)
Tension headaches are the most common, affections 1.6 billion people (21.% of the population). Followed by a migraine which affects 848 million (11.7%).
A tension-type headache is the most common type of headache and the one we think of as a normal, everyday headache.
It may feel like a constant ache that affects both sides of the head. You may also feel the neck muscles tighten and a feeling of pressure behind the eyes.
I used to get headaches and lots of them. I am also a Migraine Sufferer. And one must never compare the two. Warning: mini-rant please scroll down the page now if you’d rather not read!
I would go as far to say I am an acute migraine sufferer. Therefore, I do find it very hard when someone tells me they have a really bad migraine when they have appear to showing only signs of a headache.
So the evidence. This person has walked into work normally, I’ve checked, it seems their face is not contorted with pain, or they aren’t clutching their head in their hands to try to stop the knives shooting into their skull; their speech isn’t slurred and they don’t sound like they’ve downed too many prosecco’s. There are no visible signs of vomiting uncontrollably; hysterical sobbing or begging for help to stop their misery. Bright lights aren’t bothering her. In fact, she looks particularly normal like someone does when they have a headache!!!
After many years of taking a number of over the counter drugs to control my tension headaches, I still continued to get way too many headaches. And to be frank the drugs didn’t seem to control them and I was getting more focused about what I was putting into my body, or moreover what I didn’t want to put in.
I decided to put a plan into action, clean my diet and find out what’s causing that pain in the neck (and head!).
So quite literally and as quick as I’m typing this post I gave up some of the known culprits:-
♥ The White Stuff – Sugar
♥ All caffeinated drinks
And I gave up the booze!
My headaches lessened but didn’t clear completely.
So I moved onto the next stage, grabbed myself a travel water bottle and filled it 4 times a day, taking it wherever I travelled.
This was the game changer.
Yes – people were a little taken aback that I popped over for a natter and coffee, but politely turned down the coffee and the sweet nibbles on offer, and continued to slurp from my now new pal, the water bottle.
It’s ok to be different!
It’s your body and it’s only you that can make the changes to improve that amazing bod of yours!
I’ll talk more about my diet changes another time, but for now, I’m focusing on letting you know the absolutely stonking ways that water can make you feel shamazing!!!
Make the change!
As with most things, the amount of water for each person is very individual, but if your pee isn’t mostly clear or you have any of the symptoms I mentioned above, you most likely aren’t getting enough H2O. Some suggest 8 (8 oz) glasses a day while others suggest taking your body weight (in pounds), divide it in half and drink that many ounces. Listen to what your body needs.
If you don’t care much for the taste of… nothing, then you can add a squirt of lemon, a squeeze of lime, a few sprigs of fresh mint or a cucumber or orange slice. You can even be so bold as to add a few berries or watermelon. Whatever gets you to drink it up.
My first drink of the day is hot water with slices of lemon, in fact on a cold day, when you need that warm drink and missing the odd cuppa of tea, I can have many of these winter warmers along with high-quality herbal teas which hit the spot.
You’ll find my recommendations of teas at the bottom of this page, but it’s all down to trial and error and finding something that suits your tastes.
Cheers to your good health with a nice glass of water!
