As technology, lifestyle, and living standards improve, so too does our expectations for how long we will live. Middle-class people in the west can now expect to live comfortably until they are eighty without too many health concerns. But your chances of living a long and healthy life packed full of everything you expect from it can be hugely increased with effective lifestyle changes. Here are just a few of them.

Improve Your Diet

We all know that a healthy diet is good for you! Eating more fresh fruits, vegetables, and produce can reduce heartburn symptoms and make us feel more energetic, but it can also help us to live longer. If we continue to eat processed food over the long term, it can be a difficult cycle to break. The more sugar and salt we consume, the more our bodies will crave it and more of it we consume. This will lead to health problems down the line, and much sooner than we might encounter them were we to consume whole foods.

Reduce Alcohol Consumption

There is no part of the body that isn’t affected by the consumption of alcohol. In particular, however, it’s the liver, kidneys, and heart that process it that most. Like an engine that doesn’t get enough fuel or a proper oil change, your body will deteriorate faster if you continue to consume alcohol regularly. Nothing breaks the body down faster than alcohol, so be aware of how much and how often you drink. Reducing your alcohol consumption can significantly increase your lifespan.

Take Regular Exercise

One of the best ways to improve your health and extend your lifespan is by taking regular exercise. You don’t have to be an athlete to get the benefits of physical activity, even walking or light weights regularly will improve your body’s condition, regulate your weight, and revitalize the functions of your internal systems, like your digestive system. Regular exercise does not only benefit you in later life; it has excellent benefits for your right now as it will provide you with more energy and make you look and feel healthier.

Get a Wellness Routine

Establishing a wellness routine now will benefit you massively in later life when your body begins to deteriorate naturally. Both your body and mind respond to changes in your habits and becomes accustomed to routines. If you get into healthy living practice, you will build momentum that will last well into old age. Think about a yoga routine, regular exercise, and a diet that’s full of fresh foods and whole foods – you won’t regret it.

Sleep Better

Getting an appropriate amount of sleep each night is vital for resetting your body, mind, and your circadian rhythms. It’s an established scientific fact that quality sleep can improve your life quality and increase your lifespan. If you have trouble sleeping, try CBD oil or valerian root. Both of these products have been shown to improve sleep patterns. A more natural alternative is exercise, but ensure you do your physical activities during the day and not too late at night.
