2020 has been a year much more challenging than most. In our lifetimes none of us have experienced a year like this, and the world has suffered financially and emotionally as a result of the pandemic.

Have clear goals
Saving money is a challenge, and when you want to start saving money for your future it is important for you to have a clear set of goals. If you have always wanted a car or a house or a holiday abroad – now is the time to use these as goals to save towards. Consider how happy you will be when you can enjoy these things and this will make you want to get saving as soon as you possibly can.
Clear your existing debt
No one likes to talk about debt, but we like to think of debt as an experience to learn from and adapt from. When considering any debt you have now including credit card or student debt, think about the positive side that once it is paid off you’ll be financially free. Only buy things you need
It is incredibly hard for us to resist temptation to buy items we don’t need, but when you are tight on money you need to stick to basics. Make the most of what you have at home with home cooked meals, cosy nights in and playing with your pets – and try not to go out every week or spend lots on takeaways for a while. Think about the plus side; by staying at home you’ll be able to save money as well as lose some weight and feel healthier and happier in yourself. Sometimes saving money can actually be a good thing!
Reward good habits
It is important to not deprive yourself of everything when saving some money, and we know how important it is to treat ourselves now and again. You can do this by buying a bottle of wine for a cosy night in, adding a fancy face wash to your shopping list, or heading out for an early morning coffee one day. Just because you are trying to save some money doesn’t mean you have to go completely without and there are plenty of small things you can do to soften the blow of not spending.
Stop online shopping
One of the worst habits we have is online shopping and buying things we don’t need. We all know how hard it can be to resist flicking through our favourite stores in the evening – and so many of us but the odd thing here and there but these costs build up over time. To stop yourself spending way too much money online – delete your online shopping apps and opt instead for a saving!
